Defining hopes created us to be a human. If we do it as a comparative study, do animals have hopes? Some might have, and some are not. That’s why some of my cats can live longer because they had hopes, and some are not hence when they are sick they don’t want to strive to fight it and died. We can’t make a general definition for animals if they have hopes or not.
We can’t make sure if animals had it. But what we can make sure of, that they can’t define hope. Hope can prolong animals’ lives, but won’t make them miserable. Unlike human. Many of them are miserable because of hopes.
Humans hope to have a long-lasting partner as their soulmate, but we can’t make sure that it would happen. Humans hope for having a good situation in life, but we still can’t make sure of it. Humans hope to be able to do better for others, but some are just don’t have the capability to do it. By their not-achieved hope, they can be miserable. Humans are longing for something they could not have. Have you ever experienced the feeling of longing for something, while in the end, you could not achieve it? Do you feel good about it? Or do you feel sad, or even miserable? Most of us would likely feel miserable for sure.
Should we not hope for anything? Just like it flows like the animals. They are hoping due to their instincts, their natural life. Not being influenced by the longing for something they could not have. They can simply give up on something they could not have, and be satisfied by it. While we are not. Why does Japan kill people for enlarging their empire? They are hoping for power and might so large. Something that they in the end could not have and ended up nuked twice.
That what hope can make you. Or if you now are longing for good grades, or longing for a decent job, or longing for having a good life in the future, those are something that we as humans can. Humans can hope. But, they can’t make sure to get what they are hoping while when they don’t get what they want, they simply became miserable. Why do we choose to hope anyway.
Well, probably we can not hope for anything. But to not hoping anything, I think would not be good anyway.
